Each February there are oversized rodents that are looked to in the hopes that they can make an accurate prognostication regarding the coming of spring. Have you ever wondered why there isn’t a similar day set aside to predict the coming of fall? Of course you haven’t, because everyone knows that Fall arrives whenever the first issue of Swami the Magazine is released! No guesswork needed! So let the 14th Season of Swami the Magazine officially welcome you to Fall!
2012 is going to be an interesting season. In some ways it’s a lame-duck season. It’s the final year before we get the much-requested 4 team playoff for the title, so while we could still end up with something screwy happening, you won’t have to read nearly as many articles written about how we need a playoff, which will be nice. It’s also the last season before most of the remaining already announced conference moves will take place. In other ways, it’s just like every other season where optimism runs high for fans all across the country that this is the year that their favorite school will take that next step toward a championship. Ahhh… Fall. My favorite time of year!
If you’ve been away too long or are new to the StM family I wanted to run through our annual overview of who we are and what we do here at StM:
+ The Swami will pick most of the Top 25 games and some special interest games of STM subscribers each week. He adds some level of commentary and/or humor to each matchup.
+ The Guru (the official Brother and Legal counsel of the Swami) will pick one game against the Swami each week.
+ James and the Swamette (the official offspring of the Swami) will pick 4 NFL games (Kansas City, Atlanta, and two others typically) each week once the NFL season starts.
Now, as has been the case for years here at the magazine, each week there is a theme that runs through the prognostications of the games. Since the Swami is still suffering from an Olympic Hangover he thought that the theme for this week would be what Olympic Event/Sport best correlates with each Week 1 matchup. So without further ado… The Picks!!
Until next time… The Swami!!
