It’s the first day back in school for James & the Swamette after a highly enjoyable Christmas break, but they weren’t going to let that stop them from filing their picks for this weekend’s highly anticipated Wild Card Weekend.
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Houston Texans
James thought he’d make this pick. While he’s a BIG fan of the Bengals helmets (coolest stripes in sports according to the 4 1/2 year old uniform aficionado), he just can’t overlook the fact that the Bengal offense has been stumbling and bumbling into the playoffs. And while the Texans have done plenty of stumbling of their own, the host team seems poised to hold serve at Reliant Stadium and unleash Arian Foster (who had a seriously classy tribute to the Colts’ Chuck Pagano last week by the way… kudos to Arian) to the tune of a Wild Card victory. Texans 24-14
Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers (part Deux)
Last weekend’s version of this matchup was incredibly entertaining, but the Swamette isn’t foreseeing a redux of that one. She’s pretty sure that Adrian “All Day” Peterson is going to be just as hard to handle for the Packers as he was last week, but her 6 years of analysis have taught her one key axiom: Christian Ponder is unlikely to play as well as Aaron Rodgers 2 weeks in a row. Done. Packers 34-27
Indianapolis Colts vs. Baltimore Ravens
James is taking the easy way out on this one. He’s decided that to pick against a #Chuckstrong team that turned everything around in 1 season, has a horseshoe on their helmet, and a guy named Luck at quarterback is as bad of an idea as he can think of. So he’ll ride the hot hand vs. the team that has lost 4 of 5, even with their emotional leader announcing his retirement following the season. Colts 20-17
Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Redskins
The Swamette is struggling with this one. Everything in her wants to pick the Redskins, partially because she knows that the Swami is a BIG RGIII fan, but more importantly because of his 20/5 TD to INT ratio and stud RB Alfred Morris behind him. However, Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch pose an equally compelling argument for the Seahawks. So what the Swamette did next was look at the defenses and everything came into focus. There’s no betting against the red hot Seahawks at this point. Seahawks 27-21
So the good news is that if you have a host of birthday parties to go to this weekend, you already know how the games will turn out!
Happy New Year from James & the Swamette!
