Swami the Magazine 2014-15 Bowl Preview

Ok, so there are 412 Bowl Games this year, so it’s a bit daunting to try to give a nugget on every game, but what would be better than that? Picking every game against the Guru & the Swami? Done. If you want to go head to head with us, just join one of our Bowl Mania picks groups and you can do just that!

Pick Swami-style… just pick the winners: http://games.espn.go.com/college-bowl-mania/2014/en/group?groupID=78332

Pick Guru-style… with confidence points: http://games.espn.go.com/college-bowl-mania/2014/en/group?groupID=75995

So now that you have all of our picks, here are just some games that we want to highlight that you just might want to tune in to see:

Saturday, December 27th

Holiday BowlNebraska vs. USC – Oh, what a few weeks it’s been for the folks in Lincoln. For those reporters who loved quotes and controversy it’s been a final crescendo of a turbulent time. Mike Riley will calm things down, but will it translate to a difference in wins & losses? Who knows. All I know is that it seems unlikely that the past few weeks have helped the Husker chances in this one. USC 34-27 Bo

Independence BowlDoesn’t matter who is playing – No Beard, No Camo, No admittance to the Duck Commander Independence Bowl. That’s a fact Jack. South Carolina 33-24DuckCommander

Monday, December 29th

Russell Athletic Bowl – Oklahoma vs. Clemson – Does OU bounce back from the disappointment against OSU in Bedlam, or do the orange uniforms of the Clemson Tigers cause flashbacks? Always bet on Orange. Clemson 28-24Oklahoma

Wednesday, December 31st

Orange Bowl – Georgia Tech vs. Mississippi State – I have to say it’s really weird to have the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve instead of New Year’s Day, but it’s a brave new world. And as much as I love the Yellow Jackets, and I think that Mississippi State losing their DC will help, it has often appeared to me that if you give a team a month to prep for the Triple Option, it is very advantageous. Mississippi State 38-31GT Helmet

Peach Bowl – Ole Miss vs. TCU – Can I say that I appreciate the changing of the name back to the Peach Bowl? Thank you Chick-fil-a for giving that back to us. As for the game, I look for the Horned Frogs to want to make a statement to the playoff selection committee. TCU 45-30

Thursday, January 1st

Outback Bowl – Auburn vs. Wisconsin – I’m sorry, I was going to make the pick but it quit its job and took a better one before the bowl game. Wisconsin

Cotton Bowl – Michigan State vs. Baylor – As I said with TCU, I expect Baylor to really try to make a statement. Michigan State will be a very tough challenge, but I look for Baylor to make this happen. Baylor 34-28BaylorBowl

Citrus Bowl Missouri vs. Minnesota – If you combine the school names you get Mmiisnsnoeusroita. You’re welcome for that. Gophers FTW! Minnesota 27-24gopher

Playoff Semifinal Rose Bowl – Florida State vs. Oregon – FSU has done an amazing job of escaping every challenge, but I’m feeling that coming to an end in this one. The Ducks make it to the Championship game! Oregon 34-30

Playoff SemifinalSugar BowlAlabama vs. Ohio State – As they are currently constituted you have to favor Alabama. But Ohio State has Urban Meyer pulling the strings and just obliterated Wisconsin to get into this game. Do you trust Urban or Saban? Hmm… I’m going with the starting QB as the difference maker, so I’ll favor Alabama 28-24
